The company was originally established in 1975 as an electronic components distributor. The company changed ownership in 1985 and as a components distributor continues to serve a nucleus of small to mid-sized manufacturers with a brand name product line and superior service.

In the early 90’s, the present owner, James DiGiovanni, expanded the product line to include industrial electric motors and motor related products. Realizing the need for motor energy conservation in industrial applications, SM Service & Technology joined forces with the United States Department of Energy as a Motor Challenge Allied Partner in 1996.

Staff engineer Gerald J. DiCarlo joined the company at that time to further enhance the company’s capabilities in that area.
The DOE Best Practices Motor Challenge Program is an industry/government partnership designed to help industry capture billions of kWh per year of electricity savings.

Today SM Service & Technology’s staff has grown and the company¬†continues to supply motors and other industrial electrical equipment such as relays, contactors, switches, wire and cable, cabinets, connectors and more to industrial and utility customers throughout the area as well as internationally.
