In the early 90's, the present owner, James DiGiovanni, expanded the product line to include industrial electric motors and motor related products. Realizing the need for motor energy conservation in industrial applications, SM Service & Technology joined forces with the United States Department of Energy as a Motor Challenge Allied Partner in 1996. Staff engineer Gerald J. DiCarlo joined the company at that time to further enhance the company's capabilities in that area.

The Best Practices Motor Challenge Program is an industry/government partnership designed to help industry capture billions of kWh per year of electricity savings. The program's official mission is to deliver products and services through its Allied Partners that assist their customers in gaining a competitive advantage in managing their electric motor systems while saving energy and enhancing environmental quality.

SM Service & Technology staff engineers will survey the motor equipment in your plant and via the Department of Energy's MotorMaster+ computer program, make recommendations for cost-effective, energy-saving improvements.  The energy savings can usually be accomplished either by improving motor efficiencies or by the installation of Energy-Saving Motor Controllers, or Variable Frequency Drives and may include substantial rebates on the purchase of energy efficient motors. Payback periods usually fall below 2 years and can be immediate in some applications.

In addition, the MotorMaster+ computer program can be made available FREE to the customer for future and continuous management of the in-plant motor systems.  As an Allied Partner in the U.S. Department of Energy's Motor Challenge Program, we are committed to helping our customers save motor energy.
